There are lots of obvious things that we do not think about, we just take them for granted. When I first got to Latvia, I saw a shovel at the porch of my house. Right then I did not know which use could I give to it, but someone told me: how would we shift the snow away if it was not with the shovel? In my life, I never had to worry about shifting the snow away; I did not even think that it was something necessary.
In Latvia, I found many more things that I did not expect. I did not expect to fall in love with Riga, to walk over a frozen sea, to stroll over the Baltic beaches, to admire the beauty of the sun reflection in the snow, to celebrate Christmas twice, or to spend half a weekend travelling just to spend the other half with my friends.
So when I think about what the EVS meant to me, I do not know what to say. It meant life, frozen laughs, falls in the snow, to be frozen with friends and card games in a train, but it also helped me appreciate the obvious things and to value what I am, where I come from and where I go. In conclusion, it helped me to discover what a shovel is used for.
